Baltimore, MD – Dec. 23, 2023 – Starting December 23rd, the Baltimore area light rail system will resume operations after a two-week suspension, according to WMAR2News. The suspension had caused inconvenience for many commuters who rely on the light rail for their daily transportation needs. During the initial days of its reopening, light rail services will be free until January 2nd, providing relief for passengers before the holidays.
_x000D_The suspension of services was due to emergency inspections of the entire light rail fleet after concerns arose about punctured conduits on the vehicles, stemming from a previous fire incident in October. Additionally, issues with inner car connector cables, which had caused several smoke events over the past two years, were addressed.
_x000D_Passengers had to rely on shuttle buses between stations during the suspension, which led to longer travel times. However, with the light rail set to resume, these shuttle buses will no longer be necessary, and commuters can return to their regular transportation routines.
